Kairos Polunsky Can Create a Christian Community Inside the Allan J. Polunsky Unit

Kairos Polunsky is a ministry whose mission is to develop a Christian community inside the Allan J. Polunsky Unit through weekends, reunion groups and bible studies.

Kairos Polunsky brings positive and negative leaders together, in the unit, for a 3 ½ day Weekend led by Kairos volunteers, who serve inside the Allan J. Polunsky Unit and outside organizing agape, prayers in the chapel, cooking meals and insuring everything arrives at the prison on time throughout the weekend.

The Weekend inside the Allan J. Polunsky Unit is based on:

  • A series of talks
  • Discussions
  • Chapel meditations
  • Fellowship
  • Meals together
  • Creating a Christian community

For many participants, the Kairos Weekend creates the desire to become a Christian, and for others the desire to continue his spiritual growth. The inside team consists of a leadership team, a worship team who coordinates with the prison worship team, table leaders and their assistants, and a chaplain team.

Outside the unit on a weekend, a team is organizing the following:

Three prepared meals a day,

Agape which consists of:

  • Hand colored placemats for every meal,
  • Prayer Chains to hang inside the prison showing those praying over the weekend,
  • Bags for letters to the prisoners
  • Forgiveness bags
  • Cookies for the unit and table cookies for the participants

The outside team consists of an outside coordinator, administration team, kitchen team, chapel team, logistics team, agape team, runner drivers, and a cookie czar.

Volunteers prior to the weekend sign up to pray over the weekend, color placemats and letter bags and bake cookies that will be distributed to the participants during the 3 ½ days and for forgiveness bags.  These volunteers are crucial as we need 600 hand colored placemats per weekend, 42 letter bags, 42 forgiveness bags, 300 dozen home baked cookies and as many prayers for the weekend as possible

Statement of Faith

The people of Kairos are called by God to share the love of Christ with those impacted by incarceration. Kairos encourages believers from a variety of Christian traditions to be volunteers in this Christ-filled ministry.

Kairos programs offer to prison residents, their families, and those who work with them the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ, and to grow in their faith and servant hood in Christian community. We stand on the common ground of the following elements of faith:

We in Kairos believe:

  •  The Bible is God’s authoritative and inspired word for our faith and our lives.
  •  In the Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  •  In the deity, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  •  Friendship with God is a free gift, for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
  •  The love of Jesus Christ motivates His followers to provide food for the hungry, drink to the thirsty, welcome to the stranger, clothes for the naked and visits to the sick and those in prison.
  •  In sharing the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ with all incarcerated individuals, their families and to those who work with them inside and outside the correctional institution.
