How can you help

How Can I Volunteer?

There are a variety of ways to volunteer for a Kairos Weekend! First, Kairos is always in need of donations to support the weekend. As inmates cannot pay a fee to attend is all based on donations. Those inside and support teams who attend the weekend pay a fee to attend. However, the 42 men in white, the stewards in white, and the guards who volunteer on the weekend don't. Therefore donations are need to feed and provide the supplies necessary for the weekend. Second, over pray over the weekend on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Third, Bake cookies for the 42 men in white, and finally Color Placemats for the meals.

PRAYER CHAINS: April 10-13 (Th-Sun)

Slips are filled out with first name & city of people who commit to pray for Kairos Th, Fri, Sat, Sun or all days. Each day is a different color.  These links are placed together to form a chain which wraps along the walls of a gym where the event takes place.  Each bright color of the chain represents a day(s) a person has chosen to commit to pray.  Prisoners (“men in white”) who have experienced Kairos &/or are Christian MIW sign white strips.  “Free world people” who are us sign colored strips.  All are amazed at this sight & view people from all over the world who are praying.  Some make social media requests & are able to reach an even broader audience of prayer warriors.  Pray that each cookie brings those who eats it closer to God. Pray that the placemats, food served, prayer chains, letters, & all agape fill each man’s heart with God’s unconditional love. Ask God to use it as a source of His love to shine on those involved during the Kairos weekend.

Some Suggestions For Prayer Are:

  • Each team member is a humble servant.
  • Satan be bound from the prison.
  • An open heart for each inmate that he might receive whatever Jesus Christ wants for him that weekend.
  • Guard against any distraction.
  • Bonding to Jesus with each other.
  • A hunger for God.
  • Pray for the Polunsky Unit – the personnel, the chosen 42 inmates, the warden, staff, chaplains, correctional officers, our support team, & also the host church that the will of God be accomplished.
  • The entire Kairos Team (about 40-50) for:

Bake Cookies

Cookies become a tangible expression of Christian love and an indication of God’s concern for a group of people who seldom have either in the course of their daily lives.  A Kairos weekend supplies 3,500 dozen bakery bought cookies (all the same) which are distributed to ALL inmates, correction officers, and staff.  At least 300 dozen “home-baked” table cookies are needed for those involved in the special Kairos weekend.  May God bless you for the gift of baking as your spirit of generosity and outreach are shown to those who are lost and lonely.

Color Placemats:

The placemats are 11X17  They can only be colored with crayon, map colors or marker.  Stencils, stickers, glitter or beads cannot be attached to the placemats.  These are used at every meal at the tables.

Statement of Faith

The people of Kairos are called by God to share the love of Christ with those impacted by incarceration. Kairos encourages believers from a variety of Christian traditions to be volunteers in this Christ-filled ministry.

Kairos programs offer to prison residents, their families, and those who work with them the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ, and to grow in their faith and servant hood in Christian community. We stand on the common ground of the following elements of faith:

We in Kairos believe:

  •  The Bible is God’s authoritative and inspired word for our faith and our lives.
  •  In the Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  •  In the deity, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  •  Friendship with God is a free gift, for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
  •  The love of Jesus Christ motivates His followers to provide food for the hungry, drink to the thirsty, welcome to the stranger, clothes for the naked and visits to the sick and those in prison.
  •  In sharing the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ with all incarcerated individuals, their families and to those who work with them inside and outside the correctional institution.
