GET INVOLVED

Kairos at Polunsky needs your help. There are many opportunities for you to volunteer in this ministry. All we ask is that you have a willing heart and a spirit of obedience and you can play a crucial role in God's ministry of Changing Hearts, Transforming Lives, and Impacting the World. Here's some basic information to help you "get involved."

BE A TEAM MEMBER

Kairos at Polunsky volunteers come from all walks and strata of life. They all share a desire to follow Christ's admonition of Matthew 25:36, "I was in prison and you visited me." If you feel God's call to minister to the incarcerated, to the female family member of someone incarcerated, or as a part of a Kairos team, contact us today about how you can be involved. Not all team members serve inside correctional institutions. Some serve on the outside team, while others volunteer to complete items needed for the weekend.  Kairos Outside weekends are usually held at church camps (and similar facilities).

BE A PRAYER PARTNER

All Kairos at Polunsky unit activities are covered with prayer. Those who commit to pray over a weekend are included in a prayer chain that is hung in the unit over the weekend.  You can be a part of that prayer effort. Contact us!

BE A SUPPORT VOLUNTEER

Each Kairos retreat weekend has opportunities for outside support, such as baking cookies, writing letters of support, or preparing meals. Get your church's Sunday school classes to color placemats for mealtime in prison.

BE A COOKIE BAKER

We may need up to 5,000 dozen cookies for a typical Kairos weekend. Do the math... that's 60,000 cookies! Homemade cookies are a tangible expression of Christian love and an indication of God's concern for a group of people who seldom encounter either during their daily lives. Your loving sacrifice will provide "bread" that shines the Light of God's Grace into the darkest corners of a prison unit. May God bless you for the gift of baking! Attached are the cookie guidelines for the Allan J. Polunsky Unit.

Statement of Faith

The people of Kairos are called by God to share the love of Christ with those impacted by incarceration. Kairos encourages believers from a variety of Christian traditions to be volunteers in this Christ-filled ministry.

Kairos programs offer to prison residents, their families, and those who work with them the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ, and to grow in their faith and servant hood in Christian community. We stand on the common ground of the following elements of faith:

We in Kairos believe:

  •  The Bible is God’s authoritative and inspired word for our faith and our lives.
  •  In the Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  •  In the deity, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  •  Friendship with God is a free gift, for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
  •  The love of Jesus Christ motivates His followers to provide food for the hungry, drink to the thirsty, welcome to the stranger, clothes for the naked and visits to the sick and those in prison.
  •  In sharing the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ with all incarcerated individuals, their families and to those who work with them inside and outside the correctional institution.
